Volume Inc. was founded in 2000 by Adam Brodsley and Eric Heiman in the hope that they could fuse their common aims but disparate talents to create a more holistic design practice where the long view is always in sharp focus.

Since its inception, Volume has designed environments, books, films, print collateral, and web-based media for clients such as The California Academy of Sciences, ReadyMade magazine, Sony Computer Entertainment, McSweeney’s, Rizzoli, Adobe Systems, Metropolis magazine, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Chow magazine, Chronicle Books, University of California Press, Heath Ceramics, Southern Exposure, AIGA, The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, The American Institute of Architects, Young Audiences of Northern California, Seagate, Melcher Media, Deloitte, the Bridge Fund, and Microsoft.

Volume’s work has been exhibited, honored by, or published in the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, Eye, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Communication Arts, Graphis, ID, Step Inside Design, Print, How, Exhibitor, Coupe, Étapes, the Type Directors Club, AIGA, the Western Art Director’s Club, the German Design Council, and the 2003, 2005, and 2007 California Design Biennials at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Adam and Eric are both Professors of Design at the California College of the Arts (CCA), and Eric’s writing on design has been published in Eye, Emigre, Letterspace and the AIGA’s online journal, Voice.

Eric has a pretty decent comic book collection. Adam is a damn good surfer.
