DLS 2007: Davy Rothbart

When Davy Rothbart began putting together a little Xeroxed magazine called Found, a collection of items—love letters, birthday cards, to-do lists, tickets stubs, poetry on bar napkins, doodles, etc—he had no idea what kind of chord he was about to strike.

Within a year, he was profiled in the New Yorker and The Chicago Tribune, and his magazine was written up in everything from USA Today to Penthouse.

And when Fireside Books released FOUND: The Best Lost, Tossed and Forgotten Items from Around the World in 2004, it quickly became a national bestseller that was featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, and Davy visited all 50 states to promote the book.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, Rothbart is a contributor to public radioês This American Life, a rapper, a documentary filmmaker, and the author of the story collection The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas (Touchstone Books, 2005). He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
